About Me

KRYSTAL HAGGARD, RD, BSC

FOUNDER & REGISTERED DIETITIAN

Hi! I’m Krystal Haggard - a Registered Dietitian, Momma of 2, runner and founder of Krystal Clear Nutrition. I have been working as a Dietitian for 10+ years and I LOVE it!

I became a Dietitian because of my collective interests in human metabolism, food and people. With a background in Biochemistry, my secret weapon is translating the science of nutrition (aka the WHY) into HOW and WHAT to eat.

My goal is to help bring the joy and simplicity back to food and eating! Whether you’re a busy momma (like me!) or CEO trying to juggle the work-life balance, seeking to exit left off of the “diet culture” main stage, or you’re just plain motivated to get more out of the foods you eat to increase energy, mood and vitality, I look forward to being your guide to help you make progress (not perfection) towards a healthier and happier you!

A BIT MORE ABOUT ME

I live in the beautiful Rocky Mountains in Invermere, BC with my husband Steve and our two girls, Zoe & Harper. Together, we take full advantage of all that our scenic outdoors has to offer - you can find us out on the golf course in the summer or skating on the lake in the winter. I am an avid runner and have completed numerous half and full marathons. I’m “that person” that goes for a run on Christmas morning or when I’m on vacation.

Thanks to my mom and nana, my passion for food started at a young age - they taught me how to bake and cook (and to sing while I work!). I am happiest when I am in the kitchen whipping up a delicious recipe for my family & friends or to share with you! I look forward to meeting you and can’t wait to be a part of your health journey!

The Philosophy

CLEAR THE CONFUSION

In a world full of mixed messages, emerging diet trends and misleading information, we’re often left with more questions than answers. The good news is that nutrition doesn’t have to be complicated - and that’s where I come in!

I will answer all of your foodie questions, debunk any crazy nutrition myths and provide you with the basic framework for how to nourish your body, mind and soul.

MAKE PEACE WITH FOOD & YOUR BODY

It is far too exhausting (& unrealistic) to live '“diet by diet,” constantly following food “rules” and “restrictions.” In fact, did you know that 95-98% of diets fail? Using the principles of intuitive eating, my mission is to help steer you away from diet culture, embrace food freedom, help you love & honour your body and remove any guilt and shame associated with food and eating. If it sounds easier said than done, it’s not! I Promise!

SIMPLE WITH A SIDE OF FUNNY

My approach is to make nutrition fun & informative through a combination of science, real-life solutions and humour. I will work closely with you to provide easy-to-follow recommendations and strategies so that you can seamlessly apply the basic principles of healthy eating into everyday life. I promote real food from your local market or grocery store and strive to bring ease to the meal planning process with how-to-guides and delicious recipes that help you bring it all together.

GENTLE NOURISHMENT

Food is more than just about nutrition. It should give us energy, contribute to long-term health and bring us joy. For that reason, I am all about helping you make food choices that honour your health AND your taste buds! I am also a firm believer that the best changes that we can make for ourselves are the ones that we implement over time (deep, I know!). Therefore, my approach is rooted in helping you create a healthy lifestyle and eating habits that are actually sustainable (as in forever!)

Together, let’s aim for progress - not perfection!

What is a dietitian?

The title of “Dietitian” is protected for those who have completed the following:

  • An undergraduate degree in nutrition from an accredited university program (ie. Bachelor of Science in Food, Nutrition & Health)

  • A one-year Dietetic internship program

  • Successfully passed the Canadian Dietetic Registration Exam (CDRE)

Dietitians are regulated health care professionals and are accountable to provincial regulatory bodies, which uphold standards of practice, education and ethics. Dietitians are committed and required to participate in learning activities on an annual basis to stay up-to-date with current research and skills. This way, we are able to translate nutrition research into terms that are easy to understand and provide easy-to-follow guidelines and recommendations to support the health of clients and communities.

health insurance coverage

Nutrition counselling from a Registered Dietitian may be covered under your medical insurance plan.

Please check with your employer or contact your insurance provider to review your policy. If your plan does not cover the services of a Registered Dietitian, you can submit your receipt as a non-refundable tax credit.

Note that in the province of British Columbia, Registered Dietitians are classified as an “Authorized Medical Practitioner.”
